Our Faculty

PMC’s workshop leaders are highly-skilled instructors and facilitators, with years of practical, real-world experience.  Each receives consistently outstanding reviews by participants. You’ll leave your workshop energized, inspired, and armed with tools and techniques you can immediately apply at work and in life. Below is a list of the current faculty who deliver PMC’s public workshops, but we have many additional consultants and instructors.

Andrée S.
Andrée is a certified translator and a training consultant. A University of Ottawa graduate (B.A. and M.A. Translation), she has more than 20 years of experience in translating administrative, technical and specialized documents. Education and teaching has become one of her main areas of specialization over the years. In addition, Andrée is an experienced training consultant, having offered business writing, grammar and translation courses in French for various universities and private sector organizations. Andrée teaches La grammaire française rendue facile – niveau 1 and La grammaire française rendue facile – niveau 2.

Bernard H.
Bernard draws from his wealth of experience in customer service and management to provide tangible real life examples that resonate with his workshop participants. His sense of humour, creative approach and dynamic presentation style make his participants eager to contribute to the discussion even when the topic might be challenging. Bernard’s delivery focus is in empowering change, corporate knowledge transfer, understanding Gen-X and Gen-Y employees, team building, and negotiating skills. He brings to the training field 20 years of management experience from the private and public sectors. He has served as Director for non-profit training and development organizations and taught Business Management programs at the college level. He is an Emotional Intelligence Certified Coach and is a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® qualified facilitator. Bernard teaches La gestion efficace des employés.

Bill S., PhD, PMP
Bill is a PMI certified Project Management Professional (PMP) instructor who has delivered more than 140 training courses to more than 1,500 people. His project management course contains almost all the tools, tips, tricks, and techniques he knows.  Bill has deep experience in project management, subcontractor management, systems integration, and training. He has founded and commercialized a small business, served as Project Manager for a $14M health information systems contract, and been the technical lead on on win of $75M in new business for a global aerospace company.  He started his career working for the Canadian Public Service to establish and manage a computing centre supporting 4,500 personnel, where he developed and deployed solutions to provide custom personnel and payroll solutions.  He has also taught for the University of New Brunswick and Seneca College. Bill teaches Project Management 101.

Brent M., CMP, CMM  
Brent has planned and managed hundreds of conferences, consultations and events nationally and abroad. As a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) with over 25 years of experience, he has been internationally recognized with the CMM (Certified Meeting Manager) designation awarded by Meeting Professionals International and l’École Supérieure des Sciences Économiques et Commerciales, one of France's Grandes Écoles. Brent teaches Effective Meeting and Event Planning and Advanced Event Planning.

Daniel A., MPM, C.H.R.P.
Daniel is a fluently bilingual senior management consultant with over 17 years of senior management consulting and senior management experience within the public and private sectors. His work has focused on organizational development, HR management, integrated planning and performance measurement. He teaches courses at the university level in HR management, general management and performance measurement. He holds a Master’s degree in Project Management, and a Graduate Certificate in Change Management. Daniel teaches Delegation Skills for the Workplace.

David H.
David has 20 years of experience in the human resources field. As a senior HR consultant for a major corporation, he provides strategic HR leadership and change management at the individual, team and organizational level.  He has strong relationship building capacity and effective group process skills. David was nominated for a Vision Award as Human Resource Professional of the Year in 2010. David teaches Human Resources 101

David J.
David is a dynamic educator with extensive training, facilitation, key note speaking and coaching experience obtained by providing consulting services for a diverse client base in North America and Europe. He is a strong experiential learning program designer who is certified in needs analysis and program evaluation methodologies. Participants in his workshops appreciate his empathy, humour, flexibility and energy. His clients report that he gets results: the sessions he designs, facilitates and manages on their behalf are positive, inspiring experiences that stimulate desired changes and outputs. David teaches Coaching for a High Performance Team, Managing Skills for Non-Managers, Making the Transition From Co-worker to Team Leader, Managing for Superior Results 1, and Powerful Negotiation Skills.

Dennis Y.
Dennis is a writer, editor and teacher with over 20 years of experience in the communications field. He has worked as a writer/researcher for a large communications firm; as a freelance reporter for CBC Radio; as a freelance writer for newspapers, magazines and textbooks; as an English teacher at Algonquin College; as a published writer of fiction and poetry; and as principal of his own consulting company. All of this work has had accurate and effective communication as its common objective – a priority in all of Dennis’ work. This experience has made Dennis a strong and creative writer who meets deadlines and delivers quality copy, a meticulous and speedy editor who corrects errors and polishes text, and an experienced teacher who enjoys helping students to become better communicators. Dennis teaches Practical English Grammar Skills.

Geoff B.
Geoff is a highly-experienced management consultant and instructor with over 15 years of extensive practice in implementing change, achieving business transformation goals and delivering numerous skills and knowledge training programs in a range of organizations. Geoff has a proven track record of delivering complex business solutions to diverse audiences and ensuring successful adoption of these strategic programs. Geoff teaches MS Excel  2007- Level 1 and MS Excel 2007- Level  2, and Take MS PowerPoint 2007™ to the Next Level.

Graham B.
Graham is a business excellence-focused senior manager and internal consultant with an engineering background. A former officer in the Royal Air Force, he is a creative thinker and dynamic innovator with considerable experience in leading and managing teams, especially in an environment of rapid change. He has a passion for teaching, educating and sharing knowledge and understanding. Graham has lectured at Masters level, and led numerous workshops and training events on diverse subjects such as leadership, networking, lean thinking, and knowledge management. He has a broad range of consultancy skills, from analysis to implementation, with emphasis on applying lean and systems thinking to logistics and business processes. Graham has a keen interest in creating win-win situations and sustainable change through people development.  Graham teaches Integrated Risk Management, Continuous Improvement for Superior Results, Strategic Thinking, and Managing Project Stakeholders.

Havelin A.
Havelin has over 20 years of experience in policy development and program/service delivery at the executive level in the Canadian Federal Public Service. She brings a wealth of knowledge of the machinery of government, legislative and policy-making processes to the table, plus experience in advising and briefing Ministers, parliamentarians and senior management in cultural change management, planning, developing and implementing policies, programs/services in areas such as Aboriginal Affairs, children’s/women’s issues and health. Havelin holds two Masters degrees, in Information Technology and Library and Information Science. And she is the recipient of awards and recognition from Assistant Deputy Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Ministers for the development of principles, regulations, policies and legislation at the national level, and for leadership in the management of projects at national and international levels. Havelin is also a recipient of the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship award, and the India Canada Ottawa Business Chamber award for professional and volunteer service to the community. Havelin teaches Effective Public Policy Development and How Ottawa Works.

Hilary S.
Hilary has been offering engaging leadership programs for over 20 years. She integrates leading edge issues with personal mastery and practical implementation. Engaging clients in a process of “catalyst-thinking”, Hilary harnesses insightful thinking in order to discover opportunities, question assumptions and cultivate a solution-focused mindset throughout the organization. Hilary is an expert in transformative learning and transitioning through change. As an Organizational Development Consultant, Hilary crafts programs for change which operate at individual, team and organizational levels. She has taught on four continents, working with people from all walks of life and a diversity of cultures. Her clients span a wide variety of industries including high tech, manufacturing, service, finance, health and not-for profit as well as municipal, provincial and federal governments. Hilary offers consulting services to clients wanting to integrate Corporate Social Responsibility and triple bottom line sustainability within their organizations. Ian H.
Ian has been involved in government work for more than 30 years. His background and work straddles the two disciplines of policy analysis and communications. He has been providing a suite of cutting-edge workshops to public servants for the past fifteen years. He holds an MPA from Harvard University. Ian teaches Policy Analysis Toolbox - Part I.

Ian S.
Ian is an information management professional with 35 years experience specializing in providing advice, guidance and training on the application of Treasury Board of Canada policies, the management of government information, privacy and the protection of personal information and the evaluation and assessment of proposals, projects and services subject to information legislation, policies and standards. Ian teaches Information Management for Admin Assistants.

Jane B.
Jane is an experienced ESL instructor and is accredited by TESL Ontario. She holds a Master’s degree in applied linguistics from Carleton University where she specialised in vocabulary research.  She has taught a variety of language proficiencies from large classes to one-on-one tutoring and has particular expertise in coaching all aspects of writing.  After graduating with a science degree, Jane began her professional career as an accountant and worked for some of the UK’s major corporations naturally gravitating to the communicating and coaching roles within the finance department.  This practical business experience has helped her in devising ESL communication classes for specific workplace needs. Her love of language is evidenced by her enthusiastic and communicative teaching style. Jane teaches Advanced Workplace Communication for ESL Speakers.

Janice F.
Janice has close to 20 years experience helping clients focus on the people skills, business processes and communications activities they need to develop creative responses to organizational change. Adept at integrating creative problem solving and innovation processes to guide professionals through the entire business cycle, she is recognized as a pragmatic thought leader who helps leaders and teams find novel solutions to challenges, predicaments and opportunities to improve business functional and strategic planning, situation and needs analysis, awareness and training program development. Janice teaches Critical Thinking and Creative Problem-Solving.

Karen Y.
Karen is a CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) and since graduating in 1990 has been a Human Resources Advisor, Analyst and Manager and is now an HR Consultant.  She has experience in a variety of industries, including not-for-profit, education, health care and hi-tech in both unionized and non-unionized environments. Her specialties include job evaluation, compensation, pension, benefits, policy development and implementation, as well as mentoring and training. Since 2007, Karen has played a key role in coordinating a highly successful mentoring program for the Ottawa Chapter of the HRPA.  Karen teaches Skills for Effective Mentoring.

Larissa B.
Larissa is an experienced instructor and facilitator. She has worked with several federal government departments, the Institute for Human Services in Columbus, Ohio, and was Academic Director at the Cultural Section of a foreign Embassy in Ottawa.  She has a strong academic foundation which includes a Master of Arts in Linguistics and a Master of Arts in Social Sciences. Larissa finds teaching and training a rewarding, exciting and enriching experience. She loves sharing her knowledge with students, and her strong belief is that her own professional growth is possible through the success of the students she teaches. Larissa teaches Gender Communication and Cultural Diversity in the Workplace.

Lisa S.
Lisa is the owner of an independent consulting firm that helps to build positive organizations. Lisa works with individuals, leaders, teams and entire organizational units providing services such as Change Management consulting, Appreciative Inquiry, individual and leadership coaching, team facilitation and effective communications training. A highly-skilled and approachable trainer, Lisa has taught Change Management to several different organizations, and has overseen the Change Management function of several different projects, including new HR programs, technological implementations, business processes and leadership structures. Lisa’s style is practical and friendly with touches of appropriate humour, and a drive to get to the “tough stuff”.  Lisa obtained her MBA from the Rotman School of Management, and earned her coaching accreditation from Adler International Learning / OISE-UT.  In addition she holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Education from Brock University. She earned her MAPP (Master of Applied Positive Psychology) from the University of Pennsylvania, one of only a handful of Canadians to hold this new designation. Lisa teaches Managing Change.

Mark B.
Mark is a senior consultant with experience as a relationship builder in public relations, lobbying, social media and stakeholder relations in roles as a Stakeholder Liaison, Senior Communications, Membership Recruiter, and Association Management Consultant. Mark has advanced skills in association/non-profit strategy planning, marketing communications, advocacy and public relations. He is accredited in Public Relations from the Canadian Public Relations Society. He is also the Co-Author of Online PR and Social Media for Not-for-Profits and Associations.  Fluently trilingual, Mark has developed comprehensive public affairs campaigns for non-profit organizations and associations worldwide. He has used his savvy to engage non-profit stakeholders online and offline resulting in higher membership recruitment and retention levels, and increased event attendance for his association clients. Mark teaches Using Social Media.

Moira W.
Moira is a versatile communicator and instructor with decades of experience editing, writing, teaching, and managing projects for government and corporate clients. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Policy, and thoroughly understands the public policy making process and plain language guidelines. Moira has extensive editing experience, and excels in helping clients develop style guidelines and appropriate means of disseminating information. She has managed onsite production of reports in Canada and Europe; has traveled across Canada with public consultations writing, editing, and producing reports; and has synthesized the work of multiple authors and written executive summaries. Moira has taught editing and writing courses in Ottawa, Montréal, Toronto, and Nunavut to government and corporate clients, as well as for the Editors’ Association of Canada. Moira teaches Advanced Business Writing, Business Writing for Impact and Influence, Minute Taking for Better Meetings, Writing in Plain Language, Proofreading and Editing, Report Writing, Succeeding at the Federal Public Service Writing Skills Test, Eight-Step Editing, and Writing Effective Briefing Notes.

Paul A.
Paul is a PMI certified project management professional (P.M.P.) with over 30 years of business experience.  He has been a consultant and instructor in project management since 1989.  He has managed numerous software and course development projects and has been involved in all aspects of the systems development life cycle.  He is particularly experienced with establishing professional Project Management Offices in which project management tools and techniques are utilized on a consistent basis to plan, monitor and report on systems integration and IT-related projects.  He also specializes in project management software tools, specifically Microsoft Project 2003, and languages such as Visual Basic. Paul teaches Managing Project Risks.

Raymond L.
Raymond’s experience in the field of adult learning covers two and a half decades and has taken him through the development and delivery of a multitude of training programs  As a certified curriculum designer and training analyst, he has worked in the government, private sector and non-profit organizations in Canada and internationally. 
Raymond currently delivers executive training programs that touch on leadership, change, negotiation and performance management. He is also an Executive Coach for both private and public sector clients. When coaching clients and managers, Raymond works from leading-edge coaching and management principles. Raymond teaches Improving Your Memory.

Ruben B., BA, MIR, LLM, CHRP
Ruben is a Certified Human Resources Professional with over 35 years of experience in all aspects of Human Resources Management. He has significant experience in senior management roles. He holds an MIR degree (Master of Industrial Relations) from Queen’s University and an LLM (Master of Laws) degree from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University specializing in Alternative Dispute Resolution. He has also completed Certificates in Alternative Dispute Resolution and in Mediation from York University, as well as the Program on Negotiation at Harvard University Law School. He is an independent Consultant based in Ottawa and teaches Employment Dispute Resolution in the Department of Law at Carleton University and Industrial Relations at the Sprott School of Business at Carleton. Ruben is a Mediator and Adjudicator and has provided labour, employee relations, and conflict resolution advice at the national and provincial level in the private and public sectors. Ruben teaches Recruitment and Interviewing Techniques for Managers.

Samantha B.
Samantha is a fluently bilingual instructor and course developer. She is a gifted communicator and energetic, engaging facilitator and teacher. She has 12 years of practical management, marketing and sales experience in the private sector, non-profit organizations and the public sector. Her diverse experience includes work as a freelance reporter, a fundraiser for non-profit organizations, and a civilian surveillance monitor for the Ottawa Police. In 2005, Samantha co-founded Ottawa’s principle technology newspaper and managed business operations for two years. Samantha teaches Active Listening Skills, Communicating for Results, Getting Organized and In Control, Increasing Your Self-Confidence, Management Skills for Admin Professionals, Practical Time and Workload Management, Stress Management Skills, Using Positive Influencing Skills in the Workplace and Working and Communicating as Part of a Team.

Sara B.
Sara is an experienced facilitator and a professor at the Algonquin College of Applied Arts & Technology in Ottawa. She is a member of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, a not-for-profit professional association for office professionals with approximately 28,000 members and affiliates and nearly 600 chapters worldwide. Sarah is not only a teacher of administrative processes, she is a practitioner as well. She works as a Commercial Property Management Assistant which allows her to stay in touch with the new trends in the administrative field. She has also occupied several administrative assistant positions in the past for Sears Canada, the Ottawa Sun, YMCA and the Senate of Canada. Sara thoroughly enjoys teaching – and this becomes quite evident to her students, very quickly. Sara teaches The Outstanding Administrative Assistant.

Sheri H.
Sheri is a Chartered Accountant with a wealth of experience in presenting, instructing and facilitating. After departing from public accounting, Sheri joined The Dominion of Canada General Insurance Company, a national insurance company, where she facilitated workshops designed to include front-line staff and management in the identification and assessment of internal processes and business strategies. She trained and led a team who conducted these workshops across Canada. While overseas, she obtained the Certified Professional Facilitator from the International Association of Facilitators. Sheri also holds a Certificate in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University. Sheri returned to Canada from Ireland in 2008. Sheri teaches Skills for Effective Presentations.

Sue F.
Sue has 20 years of experience in coaching, conducting training programs, facilitating workshops, seminars and developing course materials to suit clients and employees needs. She is recognized and highly regarded for creating a dynamic energetic learning environment. She is has a solid background in developing and presenting educational and informational programs. She has coached, consulted and facilitated seminars to create real, significant, and sustainable results on a variety of subjects. Susan K.
Susan began her office career as a secretary in 1980, eventually becoming secretary to the vice-president of a large engineering company.  Throughout this career she found that her main source of enjoyment came when assisting her peers on problems they encountered utilizing their word processor and PC applications.  It was then that she realized her true calling: teaching and supporting.  Susan began her training career in 1992. Susan’s previous office experience has given her the ability to understand and resolve unique problem situations encountered in software applications by many company employees.  She also spent several years providing application support to users at a large company.  She assisted in the creation and design of company-wide templates and provided one-on-one consultations for specific issues including creating several custom databases.  She has also written a large amount of software documentation and has a keen eye for writing easy to understand step-by-step instructions.  She is an enthusiastic instructor who enjoys helping others as much as teaching them.  Susan teaches MS Word 2007- Level 2 and Project Management for Admin Professionals.

Sylvia L.
Sylvia is a voice and presentation delivery expert who brings a unique blend of public speaking expertise and performing arts experience to her workshops. In the past decade she has helped close to 2,000 people across Canada, the United States, Costa Rica and France tap into the power of their voice, and public speakers or performers connect with their audience in a more authentic and compelling way. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, Sylvia holds a diploma in vocal performance, as well as the Medal of Excellence from the Royal Conservatory of Music for highest achievements in the province of Ontario. She is a member of VASTA (Voice and Speech Trainers Association) and has co-edited the publication “What in the World is Going On?” (Canadian Bureau of International Education). Sylvia teaches Skills for Effective Presentations.

Sylvie P.
Sylvie possesses 20 years of experience as a professional consultant and human resources manager. She is a generalist who can assist clients in all phases of the Talent and Change Management lifecycles to design and implement effective workforce and workplace strategies. Clients value Sylvie’s professionalism, resourcefulness, adaptability, client focus and results orientation. She is appreciated for her facilitation skills, where she demonstrates positive interaction, respect, organization, and creativity. She is fluently bilingual in both official languages and possesses a Secret security clearance. Sylvie teaches Business Planning in an Era of Restraint.

Vanessa C.
Vanessa is an experienced training, coaching and speaking professional. She holds a diploma in Adult Training and Development, and certificates in Alternative Dispute Resolution and Mediation, in addition to an Honours B.A. in cultural anthropology. She has delivered customized personal and professional development programs to a wide variety of both public and private sector organizations, and always receives high client satisfaction reviews. Vanessa teaches Life Planning for Retirement.

William B.
Bill is a senior consultant with an extensive breadth of experience in all aspects of human resources, organization development, strategic planning and change management. He has worked in Canada and around the world with many public and private sector organizations, as well as the non-profit and First Nations sectors. Bill is a grounded practitioner who balances intellectual integrity with common sense. He has a relaxed facilitating style with a sense of humour that participants really enjoy.
